"One in a Millennium"
AAS completes chilled water installation for stylish restaurant as part of
Millenium Dome redevelopment.

Opening in 2007, Tapa Tapa is one of many stylish restaurants which have opened as a result of the £600 million redevelopment of the Millennium Dome, now known as the O2 arena. Offering authentic Spanish cuisine, Tapa Tapa plans to build on the success of its first restaurant by opening more restaurants across London in the future.

Working as part of the Four Seasons Group, AAS Ltd was asked by Steve Evans at the Expectation Group to design and install a chilled water Air Conditioning system for the premises.

As part of the contract the company would provide Air-conditioning throughout the building with extract ventilation in the kitchen and toilets with further ventilation in the bar area.

Having previously worked with AAS on another project Mr Evans was keen to get the company onboard due to the company’s large portfolio of existing clients and was confident in the knowledge that AAS had the resources and the expertise to manage a job of this size.

The Air conditioning is run off the water mains of the building using the chilled water as a replacement for refrigerant. Unlike standard air conditioning the evaporator cools water to about 45° and it is then pumped to cooling coils in the areas being cooled. A fan is used to draw in the air through the chilled water coils thus cooling the air.

Downstairs we installed various ceiling mounted cassette units to create a consistent distribution of cool air which could satisfy the length of the dining area, thus ensuring a comfortable environment for the customer. A further 4 cassette units were installed upstairs for the smaller seated area.

Linear grilles were positioned around the perimeter of the ceiling to provide fresh air supply with additional grilles installed in the bar area. It was felt that this layout would provide an even supply for staff and the customers seated at the bar.

Both kitchens were fitted with a ceiling mounted cassette unit for temperature control. Ultra Violet filtered extract canopies were installed above the cooking ranges to the ground and first floor kitchens with 75% fresh air make up providing the ideal atmosphere for busy kitchens to operate.

Future Work

Tapa Tapa is a growing company and following this successful installation, AAS has continued to provide air conditioning solutions for various other smaller sites. Planned and reactive maintenance is a big part of our business and following the recruitment of new engineers nationwidethe Four Seasons Group is confident that it would be able to offer this service to Tapa Tapa in the future if so required.
